Clean hardwood floor after a fresh protective finish

Refresh a sound finish

Screen and recoat hardwood floors

Restore sheen and add a fresh protective coat when the existing floor is worn but does not need to be sanded to bare wood.

What to expect

A recommendation based on the floor in front of us.

A screen-and-recoat lightly abrades the existing finish so a new coat can bond. It can be a practical maintenance option, but it will not remove deep scratches, dark stains, dents, or unwanted stain color.

Peter provides free estimates and completes the work with a focus on preparation, honest communication, and details that hold up after the room is put back together.

Common questions

Before you decide

Every floor is different. These answers are a useful starting point; an in-person look determines the final recommendation.

How is recoating different from refinishing?

Recoating works with the existing finish. Refinishing removes the old finish and exposes bare wood, allowing deeper wear and color to be changed.

Will recoating remove scratches?

It may reduce the appearance of light finish wear, but scratches into the wood, dents, gray wear, and stains usually require sanding or repair.

When should I ask about a recoat?

Ask before the finish wears through to bare or gray wood. Peter can assess whether the floor is a good candidate.
